Longshot Makes the Bills Roster

September 01, 2008 By: BuffBillsFan Category: Buffalo Bills, Jon Corto, Kawika Mitchell No Comments →

Jon Corto’s journey to make the Buffalo Bills squad has finally come to an end. The good news came on Saturday when Corto made the final 53 man roster for the Buffalo Bills. This comes a year after the undrafted linebacker was on the Bills practice squad. When Corto first joined the team during training camp of the 2007 season, he was moved to safety, where he wasn’t quite comfortable. The Bills coaching staff decided to make the move with him because of his size. He stands at 6’1’’ and 195 lbs. He was viewed as being too small of a player to play the physically demanding linebacker position. At the safety position, Corto blended in with the rest of the Bills secondary, not really standing out. Obviously he was cut from the team but was signed on the practice squad for the season.

Halfway through the 2008 training camp, Corto was asked by Bills coach Dick Jauron if he wanted to move back to his natural position. Of course he jumped on to the idea. He was a Division I-AA All American linebacker at his college of Sacred Heart. Of course he excelled during the preseason, back at his old spot. In the last preseason game he was even given the starting spot at linebacker, on a Thursday night game in front of the Bills home crowd at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Now you might be saying to yourselves, “So What?”. Well it just happens that Corto was born and raised in Orchard Park, New York. He went to Orchard Park High School, where he earned All Western New York honors in both football and lacrosse.

Corto is now entering his second year in the NFL, and is one of 6 Bills linebackers on the squad.

It is unclear what role Jon will have on the team. It looks like he will play special teams and will add some depth to the linebacker position. He is currently behind Kawika Mitchell on the depth chart at the weak-side linebacker position.

The kid has heart too. During the last Bills preseason game against the Detroit Lions, Corto suffered a concussion during the game but no one knew until after it was all over. Jon ended the preseason with 8 tackles.

Now the young linebacker can return home and play in front of his family and friends. I know we will all be rooting for the hometown kid.

In Trent We Trust

Hello Bills fans.  I came across this article on sportingnews.com that analyzes the Bills from a fantasy football prospective.  The article basically states that the Bills will open up the offense more under new coordinator Turk SchonertMarshawn Lynch will also be given more responsibility in the passing game.  Trent Edwards will be relied upon to take this team to the next level.  The Bills brass has a lot of faith as do I in Trent.  I feel that he has the brains and the tools to help this team get back to the playoffs.  I also feel with the additions of Marcus Stroud and Kawika Mitchell, our defense can dominate especially at stopping the run.  A healthy Stroud means linebackers Paul Posluszny and Angelo Crowell flowing to the ball untouched.  Stroud will be doubled team which will also free up either John McCargo, Kyle Williams or Spencer Johnson.  This team is going to suprise many and I can’t wait for September 7th.  Go Bills.

Season Of Hope

Hello Bills fans.  We are only five weeks away from training camp at St. Johns Fisher College.  There is a ton of optimism by most Bills fans about the team this season.  Trent Edwards showed flashes last season that he could finally be our long term starter at quarterback.  He had some good games and helped the team win.  He also had some rough games which is totally normal for a rookie signal caller.  Trent showed his smarts and quick reaction when going to his second or third target.  He hardly ever locked on to one receiver and sensed when the heat was coming.  I am very excited about this upcoming season.  With offensive weapons such as Marshawn Lynch, Lee Evans, Roscoe Parrish, Josh Reed and rookie James Hardy along with Trent Edwards, I expect this team to make some noise.  Our defense is going to be much improved due to the additions of Kawika Mitchell, Marcus Stroud, and rookie Leodis McKelvin.  Mitchell is going to make an immediate impact on the weakside.  He is a big linebacker with a knack for the ball and can also help out in coverage.  Stroud will be a dominant force in the middle.  Stroud and John McCargo will help out our run defense tremendously.  This team has a bright future and will continue to improve under Coach Jauron.  Can you say playoffs?  I can.  Go Bills.

Donte Whitner Interview

June 02, 2008 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, Donte Whitner, Kawika Mitchell, Marcus Stroud, NFL, Paul Posluszny No Comments →

Hello Bills fans.  Early today Bills starting safety Donte Whitner was on ESPN First Take.  He was asked about how the defense will rebound from finishing 31st in the league last season.  He responded by talking about Marcus Stroud and Kawika Mitchell.  Donte also mentioned injuries as a big factor in last seasons 7-9 record.  He also said that with Paul Posluszny coming back and the additions the team has made in the draft, the Bills will be in the playoffs this season.  I like the optimism Donte.  I totally agree with you.  Check out the video on espn.com.  Go Bills.
