Marv Levy Steps Down As GM

December 31, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, NFL No Comments →

marv-levy.jpgHello Bills fans.  It was announced today that general manager Marv Levy has stepped down.  This is sad news because Marv was really moving this team in the right direction.  I believe the main reason he stepped down is because of his age.  Levy is 82 and told owner Ralph Wilson that he would be the GM for two years when he was assigned the role back in 2005.  Check out the article on the Buffalo Bills website.  We will miss you Marv.  Thanks for helping the team out.

Bills Fall To Eagles

December 31, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, Jason Peters, Josh Reed, Marshawn Lynch, NFL, Trent Edwards No Comments →

Hello Bills fans.  The Buffalo Bills lost to the Eagles 17-9 in the season finale.  The Bills lost the last three games of the season to fall to 7-9.  How can this team expect to win with no offense?  Marshawn Lynch rushed for over 100 yards but had to struggle to get there.  Our offense was terrible all season long.  We set a franchise record for the fewest touchdowns in a 16 game season.  Bills receiver Josh Reed stated after the game that the offense was way to predictable all season long.  He also said that his eight-year-old son could defend the Bills offense.  I agree with you Josh.  It seemed every game the Bills coaches were scared to go down the field.  It was always run, run, and then short pass.  You cannot win in this league by being that predictable.  The announcers of yesterday’s game called out when we were going to run the ball.  How bad is your offense when even the announcers know when you are going to run.  The Eagles would stack 10 defenders at the line of scrimmage because they knew we would run the ball.  I love Marshawn but we have to be able to get some yardage through the air to put points on the board.  The offense had plenty of chances to score in this game.  We were in the red zone four times and only came away with three field goals.  Not having Jason Peters out there also hurt our offense.  Trent Edwards was pressured most of the day and when he had his chances the throws were not on target.  The only consolation to losing yesterday was it helped improve our draft position.  The Bills have the 11th pick in the 2008 draft.  Hopefully we can add some playmakers to our team this off-season.  Go Bills.

Last Game Of 2007 Season

December 29, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, Jason Peters, Kirk Chambers, Lee Evans, Marshawn Lynch, NFL, Robert Royal, Roscoe Parrish, Trent Edwards No Comments →

buffalo-bills-logo.gifHello Bills fans.  I cannot believe the 2007 regular season ends tomorrow.  What looked like a promising season turned into another year not making the playoffs.  It seems like so long ago that we reached the postseason.  It has been eight years and the longest drought in Bills history.  The Buffalo Bills will play their last game of the 07 campaign against the Philadelphia Eagles.  I usually write about the key matchups to this week’s game but decided that wasn’t necessary for two mediocre teams.  The Eagles come into this game with a 7-8 record just like the Bills.  This could possibly be Donovan McNabb’s last game as an Eagle.  This will be a tough game for us because the Eagles have a really good defense and a great running back.  McNabb is dangerous because not only can he beat you with his arm, but can run with the football.  The Bills must pressure McNabb from the get go and force him into some bad situations.  I’m hoping to see a bounce back game from quarterback Trent Edwards.  He started out great last week but could not get the offense going late in the game.  Edwards has showed flashes this season and the coaching staff believes in him.  He will be our starter next season and a win this week will be huge for his confidence.  Running back Marshawn Lynch has had a fantastic rookie season.  He has rushed for over 1,000 yards in only 12 games played.  The Bills must establish Lynch early if they want to wear down the Eagles defense.  It hurts that starting left tackle Jason Peters is out with a groin injury.  Kirk Chambers must fill his shoes and protect Trent as well as open up some holes for Marshawn to run through.  Look for the Bills to put either Robert Royal or Michael Gaines next to Chambers to give him help.  I would like to see the Bills open up the playbook and get Lee Evans and Roscoe Parrish more involved in the offense.  We will need to hit some big plays to get some points on the board.  The Eagles will play hard, as they have done all season.  Its going to be tough stopping Westbrook because he is an all purpose back.  He can beat you with a long run or take a screen pass and go the distance.  The Bills defense should be motivated to stop him because they had a terrible game last week against the Giants.  I would love to see Marshawn and Trent end the season with a bang.  Let Trent sling the ball all over the field.  There is absolutely nothing to lose by doing that.  I will predict a Bills win like I do every week.  I just can never go against my team no matter what.  I am extremely disappointed the way this season has turned out but at least we found some things out about the guys we drafted.  With a strong offseason, I believe this team can be playing in January next season.  Go Bills.

Bills Look To Finish 8-8

December 27, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, NFL, Trent Edwards No Comments →

billslogo.jpgHello Bills fans.  Although I am very disappointed the way this season has gone, I still feel that going 8-8 would be a good thing going into next season.  This team has battled through many injuries and got themselves in the playoff race only a few weeks ago.  It seems like so long ago that we played our most important game of the season against Cleveland.  The way this season started, I thought we would be drafting in the top five.  At this point I just hope we can get a win against the Eagles.  It would be huge for rookie quarterback Trent Edwards.  Philadelphia is a hostile environment and even though they have the same record, the Eagles have showed flashes this season just like we have.  I hope the defense can bounce back from last week and shutdown Brian Westbrook.  Many of our players want to win this game because it shows how we never gave up and wanted to improve on last years record.  I can’t wait for the day that we are playing in January.  It has been too long since our last postseason appearance and with a few off-season acquisitions and the April draft, I see us making the playoffs in 08.  The Bills are an extremely young team with most of their star players locked up contract wise.  I believe that if we can get a tall wide receiver, big defensive tackle, and some depth on both sides of the ball, we will be in good shape going into the 08 campaign.  Lets Go Bills.  Beat the Eagles.

Defense Needs To Change

December 26, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, John McCargo, Kyle Williams, Larry Tripplett, NFL No Comments →

buffalo-bills-logo.gifHello Bills fans.  After being torched for over 290 yards on the ground, I think it’s about time to get rid of the Cover 2 defense.  Maybe its because of the lack of talent we have up front, but it seems that we have given up way to many yards on the ground this year.  This team needs a big defensive tackle in the worst way.  John McCargo has had a great year.  He seems to always make plays.  Larry Tripplett is very inconsistent.  One week he looks great and the next week he disappears.  Kyle Williams is a hard-nosed player that seems to be improving.  We need a big tackle.  I miss the days of having Pat Williams and Sam Adams.  Teams just couldn’t run on us.  I watched the Vikings game the other night and Big Pat still can play.  He was voted to the Pro Bowl this year.  Teams have to triple team him at times because of his strength.  He seems to always get a good push up the middle.  The Bills are missing that.  The Cover 2 utilizes speed tackles and ends to get pressure on the quarterback.  When no pressure occurs, our corners and safeties are vulnerable because they are basically playing zone.  I have seen way to many receivers wide open for first downs.  This past week we gave up two huge runs due to our inability to only keep seven in the box.  Once a back seems to past our linebackers, he is home free.  The Bills must try to fill obtain a defensive tackle either in free agency or the draft.  I would love to see them land Albert Haynesworth from the Titans.  I doubt that will happen because he will demand big bucks.  Hopefully we can correct our defensive problems by either getting more talent or adopting a new scheme.  Go Bills.

Trent Edwards Press Conference

December 26, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, Jason Peters, Kirk Chambers, Marshawn Lynch, NFL, Trent Edwards No Comments →

trent-edwards.jpgHello Bills fans.  Happy Holidays to all.  I just listened to Trent Edwards press conference.  He was asked about facing the Eagles this weekend and about what he has learned in his rookie season.  He seems to be totally grateful for the opportunity and will contain to develop chemistry with the team.  Trent also mentioned the good things that have happened and also the bad things that he has endured.  I feel that Edwards is our future and we need him to know that going into next season.  He also gave credit to a fellow rookie Marshawn Lynch.  This past week Marshawn eclipsed the 1000-yard mark.  He is the first Bills rookie to do so since 1984.  With Marshawn and Trent in the fold, I feel next year we will have more success as an offense.  It will also help to hire an offensive coordinator from within.  Look for quarterbacks coach Turk Schonert to get the job.  This will only help the offense because Trent will not have to learn a new offense in only his second season.  This week will be a tough game because the Eagles do have a pretty good defense.  It looks like pro bowl left tackle Jason Peters will not play this week.  Kirk Chambers will get the start.  Trent is familiar with Chambers from their days together at Stanford.  I hope that we can get some points on the board this week and finish the season with an 8-8 record.  Go Bills.

Final Game 15: Giants 38 Bills 21

December 24, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Brian Moorman, Buffalo Bills, Donte Whitner, Kevin Everett, Lee Evans, Marshawn Lynch, NFL, Roscoe Parrish, Ryan Neill, Trent Edwards No Comments →

Hello Bills fans.  My one question is where did the team that was playing in the first quarter go?  After building a 14-0 lead after two impressive scoring drives, the Bills offense was basically non-existent.  Trent Edwards looked very impressive early on throwing two nice touchdown passes.  His 42-yard bomb to Roscoe Parrish setup his four-yard strike to Lee Evans.  Evans made a phenomenal move to get open for the reception.  After their third possession stalled and the Bills were forced to punt, long snapper Ryan Neill bounced on to punter Brian Moorman.  Moorman picked up the ball and tried to run with it but was quickly brought to the ground.  It seemed like right after that play the momentum changed.  The Giants had a short field and scored right away.  The lead was now down to 7.  After the Giants got the ball back, the Bills defense forced them to punt.  Safety Donte Whitner tried to block the punt but ran over Giants punter Jeff Feagles.  Roughing the kicker penalty was called and the Giants had new life.  On the next play, Brandon Jacobs took one 40+ yards for the score.  The game was now tied.  Two major mental mistakes gave the Giants two scores and new life.  This was similar to what went down in Jacksonville only a few weeks ago.  Our once strong special team units suddenly cost us 14 points.  You cannot win games with major mental errors like that.  The Giants would add a field goal and take a 17-14 lead going into the half.  The Bills would take the lead in the third quarter thanks to Marshawn Lynch.  After the defense forced turnovers and held the Giants at the goal line on 4th down, Edwards tried to hit Lee Evans on a crossing route.  The ball bounced off of Evans chest and the ball was intercepted and taken back for a touchdown.  What looked like a promising second half turned into a disaster.  The Giants were up 24-21 and never looked back.  Our offense sputtered in the final quarter and the Giants returned another interception for the icing on the cake.  I thought that Kevin Everett’s presence would have the Bills all pumped up.  They came out hot but became cold as the game wore on.  Terrible game.

Preview Game 15: Giants vs. Bills

December 22, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Aaron Schobel, Chris Kelsay, Dick Jauron, Donte Whitner, Fred Jackson, Jabari Greer, Jason Peters, Josh Reed, Langston Walker, Lee Evans, Marshawn Lynch, NFL, Terrence McGee, Trent Edwards No Comments →

buffalo-bills-logo.gifHello Bills fans.  The New York Giants travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills.  Although we are out of the playoff hunt, a win would show that we are moving the right direction.  All of the players really want to end the season 9-7 and build for next season.  Here are the key matchups to this week’s game.

Bills o-line vs. Giants defensive ends:  This is my opinion is the battle of the day.  The Giants have excellent pass rushers in Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora.  Tackles Jason Peters and Langston Walker really have their work cut out for them.  If we can neutralize their ends, Trent Edwards will be able to scan the field and get the ball to his playmakers Lee Evans and Josh Reed

Bills Running Game vs. Giants Defense Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson must find ways to pick up big gains on the ground.  Lynch will hopefully reach 1,000 yards for the season in this game.  That is a big accomplishment for him as well as the rebuilt o-line.  Look for Fred to get at least 5 to 10 carries and a few screen passes.  If we are able to run the ball, I feel we will win this game.

Eli Manning vs. Bills Defense:  Defensive ends Aaron Schobel and Chris Kelsay must apply pressure and force Eli into some bad throws.  If the weather holds true, it’s going to be difficult to establish the passing game.  I’m hoping our defense gets a few interceptions in this one.  Cornerbacks Terrence McGee and Jabari Greer will have their hands full with Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer.  Look for safety Donte Whitner to grab a pick and help out to stop the Giants backs.

It would be nice to get a win here.  What a Christmas gift that would be.  I feel this team is headed in the right direction.  Coach Dick Jauron will have the team ready to close at the season strong.  Bills tight end Kevin Everett is suppose to be at the game and will make an appearance on the field.  That is great news.  Lets win this one for Kevin.  My prediction….Bills 20 Giants 17.  Go Bills

Die Hard Giants Fan Q & A

December 21, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, NFL No Comments →

Hello Bills fans.  This Sunday the New York Giants come to Buffalo to take on the Bills.  I had the opportunity to ask some questions this week to a die hard Giants fan, Keith Krummel.  Keith fielded my questions and he did an awesome job with it.  Keith and MrJokah asked me some questions, which will be posted on the Die Hard Giants Fan blog.

1) How will your offense cope without Jeremy Shockey?

A) Kevin Boss is going to fill in for Shockey.  Boss had a few catches last Sunday, but he won’t fill Shockey’s role on the team.  Shockey has become a complete TE.  His receptions have declined, but his blocking is much better, and he draws double coverage which leaves other receivers open.  Tom Coughlin will probably have Boss run some routes, but that’s about it.

2) Is Brandon Jacobs capable of carrying a team?

A) Now that Jacobs’ rookie season is coming to an end, it seems like he is injury prone.  He is huge, and he runs upright.  If the injuries are just a coincidence then I believe he can carry a team.  Even though I believe that he can carry a team, I believe that a quicker back would be a great complement to the team’s arsenal (i.e., Derrick Ward, Tiki Barber, Warrick Dunn, or Reggie Bush).

3) Will Coughlin be back next year no matter what?

A) Tom Coughlin will only be back if they make the Playoffs for the 3rd straight year.  He was given a 1-year deal last offseason.  Even though they made the Playoffs two straight years, they got eliminated in the first round.  The team did seem to rally around him more this year, but it won’t matter if the results are the same.

4) Do you see Eli Manning playing his entire career with the Giants?

A) That depends if it is up to Eli or the Giants.  The Giants will probably keep Manning until his contract expires.  I can see the Giants and Eli not agreeing on terms if things don’t improve.  They say that Eli has as many wins as Peyton through the same amount of games, but Peyton did it without the weapons that Eli has.  Peyton had Harrison and James, while Eli has (or had) Tiki, Shockey, Burress, Toomer, Hilliard, Jacobs, and all of the other Pro Bowl talent that Eli has had.  Eli’s wins should be more than others due to the talent that he has on his offense.

5) Will Strahan be back next season?

A) I hope not.  I cannot root for a man that beats his wife.  I didn’t want him back this year.  He’ll probably stay around just to piss me off.

6) Whats the deal with Plaxico?  Is he still bothered by the ankle?

A) Plaxico Burress has started every game this season.  He only practiced twice during the season.  He started out very hot, and he was tied with Moss and T.O. for most TDs for about 8 weeks.  Then, he was unable to play at that level due to his ankle.  Eli and Plaxico have not been in sync.  The problem really is that Tom Coughlin has nobody else to put in.  One would think that the 2nd or 3rd receiver can be better than the injured 1st receiver, but apparantly not.

7) How do you think your defensive ends will do against our o-line?

A) I wish I knew more about your O-line.  I only saw the Bills play the
Cowboys and the Jets.  You guys looked better than average against the
Cowboys (on offense, not defense), and less than average against the Jets.
Our D-line has been able to stack up a few sacks in just about every game
so I believe that will continue.

8) I heard that rookie Aaron Ross will be starting, how has he played  this
 season?

A) Ross has had really good rookie season.  He seems to have learned the
system well.  He has 32 Tackles, 1.5 Sacks, 3 INTs, and 1 TD so far this
season.  I would say he performed a notch under Darrelle Revis’ rookie
season.

9) What is your prediction for the game?

A) I’m calling it 20-19 G-MEN with a missed Buffalo FG to end the
game…sound familiar?

Forecast For Sunday In Buffalo

trent-edwards.jpgHello Bills fans.  I just checked the weather for the game on Sunday.  It shows temps in the 40’s with rain and wind.  I’m extremely suprised that it will not be snowing.  I have been to a few December games and they have all been extremely cold.  Lets hope its not too windy.  I would like to see Trent Edwards throw a couple of bombs to Lee Evans.  Go Bills.
