Preseason Game 4: Bills 16 Lions 13

August 30, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Ashton Youboty, Buffalo Bills, Dwayne Wright, Fred Jackson, J.P. Losman, Jabari Greer, John Wendling, Jonathan Smith, Josh Scobey, Kevin Everett, NFL, Rian Lindell, Trent Edwards No Comments →

In their final preseason game, the Buffalo Bills defeated the Detroit Lions 16-13. The Bills fell in an early 13-point deficit. Trent Edwards came in and led the team to a field goal right before halftime. Edwards went 18-24 of 182 yards. Most of his passes were crisp and on the money. His best pass was a 23-yard completion to Jonathan Smith. Edwards felt the blitz coming and perfectly placed the ball in Smiths hands along the sidelines. Rookie fourth round pick Dwayne Wright had 11 rushes for 51 yards. Fred Jackson had the teams’ only touchdown in the third quarter on a five-yard run. Bills receiver Justin Jenkins led all receivers with five catches for 56 yards. Tight end Kevin Everett also made a few nice grabs. Starting quarterback J.P. Losman only played two series and completed 5 of 6 passes for 43 yards. The starting offense moved the ball but the drives stalled due to a bad call by the officials on what looked to me like a reception by Peerless Price. Rian Lindell hit all three of his field goals tonight and looked in mid-season form. Jabari Greer and Ashton Youboty impressed me with their physical tackling. After the Bills took the led late in the fourth quarter, Josh Scobey stripped the ball from Lions kick return Kasper and it was recovered by John Wendling to seal the victory. Even though the team got off to a slow start, the young guys battled the whole game to take the victory. Big game for Edwards as he has just about solidified his role as the second string quarterback. It always feels good after a win even though it was only a preseason game.

Preview Preseason Game 4: Bills vs. Lions

August 29, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, Craig Nall, Fred Jackson, J.P. Losman, John Wendling, Josh Reed, Lee Evans, Marshawn Lynch, NFL, Peerless Price, Roscoe Parrish, Trent Edwards No Comments →

Hello Bills fans. This Thursday is the fourth and final preseason game. The Bills will be taking on the Lions in Detroit. I don’t expect to see J.P. Losman and the starters out there for more than the first two series. Lee Evans is already being held out of the game. It will be interesting to see who JP will rely on that Evans is not out there with the first team. Look for him to go to Peerless Price, Josh Reed and Roscoe Parrish on underneath routes. The first team offense will not be taking many chances with the regular season a little over a week away. I would like to see Fred Jackson get a lot of carries in this game. Craig Nall is supposed to come in for JP and then Trent Edwards will finish the game. It looks like the coaches want Edwards to be the #2 QB. Nall must not be happy about that. Looking forward to seeing John Wendling getting some more reps at safety. I think he will turn out to be a special player for us. Good luck to the team and lets get this season started right on September 9th. Lets Go Bills.

A Vote for Fred Jackson

August 28, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Anthony Thomas, Buffalo Bills, Dwayne Wright, Fred Jackson, Marshawn Lynch, NFL No Comments →

When the roster is trimmed to 53 on Saturday September 1st, the one guy that I am rooting for to stick with the team is Fred Jackson. I know that he has been playing against second and third string defenses. I know that Marshawn Lynch and Anthony Thomas will get the majority of the reps. I know that the Bills are very happy to have Dwayne Wright. I just feel that Fred Jackson can contribute to this team either on special teams or on a third down play here or there. I say give him a chance and see what he can do. He has a lot of potential and I think he can be a secret weapon for us. Here is to Fred Jackson. I hope to see you on the opening day roster. Lets Go Bills.

Offensive Line depth

August 28, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Aaron Merz, Brad Butler, Buffalo Bills, Christian Gaddis, Corey Davis, Derrick Dockery, Duke Preston, Jason Peters, Jason Whittle, Kirk Chambers, Langston Walker, Melvin Fowler, NFL, Nevin McCaskill, Terrance Pennington No Comments →

Today the Buffalo Bills announced that offensive lineman Aaron Merz was placed on the injured reserve ending his season. Merz has missed a lot of practice time with a shoulder injury. I’m curious to see who the backup offensive lineman will be. The team usually keeps nine on the roster. The projected starters are Jason Peters at left tackle, Derrick Dockery at left guard, Melvin Fowler at center, Jason Whittle or Duke Preston at right guard, and Langston Walker at right tackle. The projected backups at this point are lets say Preston because I think Whittle will end up starting, Terrance Pennington, Brad Butler, and either Nevin McCaskill, Corey Davis, Christian Gaddis, or Kirk Chambers. I guess Chambers has the best shot out of the four remaining. I for one hope the starters stay healthy. Besides Pennington, the rest do not have much experience if any at all. Lets hope and pray that are main guys are in there the whole season. Butler has had injury problems going back to last year. He is said to have a lot of potential but cannot seem to stay healthy. Gaddis, Davis and McCaskill are all rookie free agents. One of them might be added to the practice squad. Chambers has the best shot because he has more NFL experience than the previous three mentioned. Lets go O-line, please protect JP and pave the way for Marshawn. Lets Go Bills.

Marshawn Lynch needs to perform

August 27, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, Marshawn Lynch, NFL No Comments →

Hello Bills fans. As the season fast approaches, the Bills will need Marshawn Lynch to have a real good year in order for the offense to succeed. Lynch has all the tools to rush for over 1,000 yards in his rookie season. Is it a cause for concern that he has not looked great in the preseason? I for one say no. He has not had that many carries and the line has not been opening holes for him. I think Marshawn will do fine and will have a great rookie season. Lets go Marshawn and Lets go Bills.

Bills release six players

August 27, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, NFL, Reggie Lewis, Roy Manning No Comments →

Today the Buffalo Bills released six players. Wide Receiver Donovan Morgan, linebacker Roy Manning, cornerback Reggie Lewis, cornerback Chris Thompson, and quarterback Kevin Eakin. The only suprise for me was the release of Morgan. There were some good reports coming out of camp that he had made some nice plays in practice. He is also 6-2 and would have added size to our receiving corps. But wide receiver is not an area of concern on this team. The Bills will probably end up putting Morgan on the practice squad if he doesnt get picked up by anyone else. The countdown to 53 is around the corner. The Bills will have to get to that number by Sept 1st.

Aaron Schobel signs monster deal

August 26, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Aaron Schobel, Buffalo Bills, NFL No Comments →

Hello Buffalo Bills fans. I am so happy that the Bills locked up Aaron Schobel long term. He signed a 7 year deal worth 50.5 million with 21 million guaranteed. Schobel has been a terrific end for us since being drafted out of TCU in 2001. Last year he was finally recognized by the NFL and was selected to his first pro bowl. He had 14 sacks in 2006 and will take over second on the Bills all-time sack list this season. I am also extremely happy because about four months ago I purchased a Schobel throwback jersey. Congrats to Schobel for getting his due and lets hope he has a monster year. Go Bills.

Preseason Game 3: Titans vs. Bills

August 26, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Buffalo Bills, Fred Jackson, J.P. Losman, Lee Evans, NFL, Peerless Price, Rian Lindell, Roscoe Parrish, Terrence McGee, Trent Edwards No Comments →

The Buffalo Bills dropped their second straight preseason game on Friday. There were plenty of positives to take from this game. J.P. Losman started off the game a little slow but settled in nicely. He threw two picture perfect passes for big gains. The first was a 56-yard completion to Peerless Price that should have been taken in for a score. Peerless was dragged down at the 10-yard line. The Bills had to settle for a field goal after a delay of game penalty pushed them back to the 15. J.P. Losman had a nice scramble on third down and almost made it in to the end zone. Rian Lindell kicked a chip shot in to get the Bills on the board. Down 7-3, Losman hit Lee Evans on a 64-yard touchdown pass to put the Bills ahead 10-7. This was another beautiful pass from Losman and Evans catches almost everything thrown at him. He is truly our best receiver and in my opinion one of the best in the NFL. I hope the Bills sign Evans long term because he is such a phenomenal talent. He ended the day with five catches for 100 yards with a td. Losman finished the first half 9 of 20 for 180 yards with 1 td and 1 int. Roscoe Parrish had a beautiful punt return for a touchdown that was called back due to a holding penalty. Parrish is a very electrifying player. He is so quick and he will have a big role in our success this year. Another positive was the play of running back Fred Jackson. He had four carries for 31 yards and four catches for 80 yards. He was definitely the go to guy for Trent Edwards in the fourth quarter. The Bills should definitely keep him on the active roster this year because he seems like a special player.
There were also many negatives on the night. I know its only preseason but the defense still cannot get off the field after third down. They are letting up to many third down conversions. There were also many missed tackles on Titans qb Vince Young. Hopefully by the start of the season we have most of the problems corrected. Our second and third units gave up too many easy plays to the Titans second and third stringers. I’m a little concerned about the depth we have on defense. Lets hope we can shut down the run when we play Denver on Sept 9th. Terrence McGee got a concussion and will be held out of Thursday’s game against Detroit. Lets get healthy and prepare for the start of the season. Go Bills.

Schobel contract extension?

August 23, 2007 By: Billy5407 Category: Aaron Schobel, Buffalo Bills, J.P. Losman, Lee Evans, NFL No Comments →

After watching NFL total access tonight, Adam Schefter reported that Aaron Schobel is soon to get a monster extension. I’m glad to see that Schobel will be getting his payday because he has been our best defensive player for quite some time. Schobel is a complete defensive end and is in the prime of his career. It’s nice to now that both defensive ends will be locked up for quite a while. Congrats to Aaron. You deserve whatever you get. Now lets get Lee Evans locked up and J.P. Losman right after the season.
